Going to the Next Level

One of the experienced and prolific bloggers that I follow recently challenged his readers to write about their “Next Level”, meaning what would it take to move this blog to a higher level of readers and influence.

This is a great challenge, to think through what actions have to be taken in order to see a significant change in my writing.

1. I need to maintain my consistency in reading, blocking out time to not only read things across the web, but to spend longer periods of time reading books. A short attention span is the curse of a connected digital world. Being consistent in reading liberates my mind from that curse.

2. I need to maintain my deliberate discipline of writing. Meeting deadlines a week or more out forces me to constantly be looking for items that stimulate me.

3. I need to express passion for the life God has given me.

4. I need to be on the lookout for bloggers and writers that have walked the path I want to walk.

5.  I need to consistently build out my personal network using social media, and face toface.

6.  To reach the next level, I need truthtellers.  People who will ask the tough questions, provide the tough answers, and generally be interested in helping me improve as a blogger, and, more importantly as a person.

What about you?  What will it take for you to reach the next level?

Having just started a new blog myself, I am also working on many of the things you are. I’ll second (or third) that social media and face-to-face networking is something that I’m trying to work on, aggressively.

At this point, I have a fair number of blog posts outlined, and a couple weeks of posts written and ready to post. I think it’s very important to keep a consistent level of posting, both to keep readers interested and engaged, but to keep myself on task. Thanks for summarizing what your next level is!

Absolutely. Getting ahead has helped me be able to have confidence about where my blog is going. And it is indeed as vital for me to be consistent as it is to have a consistent impact on readers.

Small steps, for me, but sure.

Hi Thad,

These are great steps to take for you to reach that next level. As for me, I think I am on level 1 since I just started this month, so anything will make me go up! I plan to follow step # 2 and # 5: write consistently and comment/build my social network.

Take Care!
