Back in early January of 2012 my friend (and my boss) Mike Martin shared a link to a video showing how his wife Mary Beth had made a video using the Christmas gift he had just given her a few weeks before. The gift was an iPad 2.
I was just blown away. Mary Beth made the most amazing video, one I could not believe had been made by someone who had just received an iPad only days before.
The video is called “The Gift” and it describes in amazing detail the intricate popup gift books about the meaning of Christmas which Mary Beth had made for her grandsons.
I am using this post to introduce an in depth interview with an amazing lady, who as a Baby Boomer, is showing us how to make great art with her iPad. Part 1 of the interview is here, and Part 2 is here.

Great video! The iPad is really suitable for making videos. And with the immense resources Apple has for editing videos and pictures alike, media developers and sentimental media junkies will surely love using Apple products for their efforts.
Absolutely. And she did that on her first attempt to use the iPad to make a video. Astounding really.
I am impressed. Some people are intimidated by technology even if it is not that difficult to use. Kudos to her for embracing it. I agree with Daisy’s statement: it is nice that you no longer have to haul around a video camera.
I think what struck me the most about that video was here was a lady with obvious artistic abilities that took those abilities to the new device and made an impressive video. Amazing.
This is cool. Did she have video making experience beforehand? I love that she is using technology to stay close to family.
No, she had no experience making videos before she made this one. It is a testament to her creativity and the iPad’s ease of use.
Niiiiice. I have an iPad 2. Soooo I guess I should try to utilize it instead of just using it to facetime and play games haha.
To each his own!
Nice video. It’s amazing how fast some people can catch onto this software and use it intuitively.
What amazed me was how quickly she was able to create such a great video.
Ooh! I want one of these. The iPad has to be one of the greatest inventions of my lifetime. When I get my stuff that way it’s supposed to be, I’m gonna get me one. I promise.
That’s pretty cool. Technology can be so fun – it’s nice that you no longer have to haul around a big video camera to get a good video, and since most people carry around their iPads anyway, it’s really multifunctional.
What I was amazed by was that she made that incredible video completely on the iPad 2, including the editing, all done within 10 days of receiving the device.
