She was only a little girl when I laid her down for bed that night. We were living in Taiwan at the time.
I went to the study, pulled up the Drudgereport and saw the first mention I had heard of an airplane hitting one of the World Trade Center Towers. I immediately turned on the television to CNN International, which was running the US domestic feed.
The first tower was clearly burning. Minutes after I turned on the TV, I watched the second plane fly in to the second tower at WTC.
She was still a little girl, but the world had changed…forever.
I remember being angry that crazed fanatics thousands of miles away had changed her world–the world she would grow up in–so drastically. So much evil front and center on the world stage. Her generation should not have to live in the shadow of evil. At least that is what went through my mind that night.
It wasn’t the first time the world had changed, nor was it the last. We’ve changed a lot in 11 years.
She isn’t a little girl any more. The world is still different. Change doesn’t show any sign of stopping anytime soon.

Really poignant story
Thanks. Best compliment I’ve had!
I was getting ready for my chemistry class in 10th grade. I remember somebody coming late to class and the teacher getting pretty upset before she realized the severity of what was going on.
Our world has definitely changed. Crazy to think it was that long ago.

It feels like a whole other life time ago. Still sobering to think about. I hope it always is.
